This was posted in Neal Boortz's program notes, and it's an amazing arrangement of Africa:

I realized I left out a heading item from my update post that I'd meant to put in there:

Writing:
I'm not doing near as much writing as I want to be doing. I have the start of a project tentatively titled Pillars of the Empire. I've got notes started and have started outlining it, but I am running into my usual 'get distracted and lose interest' issues, which bugs the hell out of me. While I need to find is someone who is willing to poke me with a sharp stick and remind me I need to be working on things (preferably someone that isn't in the same house with me). Certain people have read snippets that formed the seed for this project and wanted to read more. I just need to follow the standard advice for writers and actually write. I had promised myself when I got my new laptop that I'd focus more time on it, but I've yet to do so.

Maybe I just need to be pretentious, find a nice indy coffee shop with wi-fi, and go there to write. Of course the trick there because 'and I'm going to do this when?'

So tonight while I was putting together a wardrobe for the wife, I was listening to a tape I had from when I was college, the first album by a friend of mine's band, Lenny. I remember thinking while I listening that I needed to find out if I could find any of the songs in a digital format because eventually the tape was going to wear out.

So I did a search on her name (Elissa Hadley, for the curious). Doing this led me to several websites, several of them mentioning her having passed away in 2006 from cervical cancer. I'd done searches for her on and off over the years to see if I could track her down. I hate that I'm not going to have that option now.

The bittersweet part of this was I found what I'd gone looking for in the initial search. A friend of her's has posted digital versions of the songs on which she sang, both with Lenny and with other bands.

So while I'm sad to hear my friend passed away, I'm happy to know I have the lasting sound of her voice in a format that's not going to wear out.

For anyone who might want to check it out, you can find links to it all at http://jesus-h-biscuit.livejournal.com/943971.html#cutid1.

...if something looks like it might be heavy, assume it is. Thanks to [info]thumper341, I went to Home Depot with her truck to pick up a pair of wardrobes, one for me and one for [info]ladyleo. Silly me had forgotten just how heavy 130 and 200 pounds were, especially when you're dealing with awkward boxes you're essentially trying to power lift.

They're home now, though, and I'll look at putting them together tomorrow. For now, I'm going to veg out in front of the computer, exhausted after a day at the Renn Faire followed by picking up the wardrobes.
